First stop: Concord, the capital of New Hampshire and, if you're interested in science, home to both the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium (named for the Concord schoolteacher who died in the Challenger space shuttle explosion) and the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, an air-and-space museum named for McAuliffe and astronaut Alan Shepherd, another New Hampshire native. Pamelia and I were on our way to visit renowned turtle expert, artist and writer David Carroll, who lives north of the city.
